These girls were on this balcony for two days.

Holi red balloons Batman

So we have been playing. We met a ton of our neighbors this weekend. Sunday was the festival of Colors called HOLI. How did this festival start? Well like all things here it has to do religion, but this portion of the festival has pretty much been lost. I am sure some devout followers still practice its pagan roots but in our neighborhood it was all about getting your neighbor soaked as they walked by. I asked several people what Holi was celebrating and the majority said it was a festival to usher in spring. So we celebrated the coming of spring with colors. Lots of colors! Red, Oranges, Blues, Purples, Yellow, and even silvers. I must say that everyone seemed to be having fun. The girls across the street waited with balloons, buckets, and guns filled with colored water. When someone would walk by they would soak them. My wife was asked over to play by the girls across the street. When she showed up the covered her face with red powder and dumped buckets of water on her. She then joined in on the fun going on from the balcony. I was summoned by my landlords sons to come down and play. Of course I could not say no. So i was greeted by the neighborhood 20 somethings with a good portion of dye from each of them and in no time I became a smurf look alike.

We did have a lot of fun throwing balloons, dumping buckets filled with water and of course rubbing colored powder on each other faces. But, the most fun was meeting our neighbors and a since of family. We played Holi with people from at least three different religious backgrounds and met neighbors I have not even seen before. It was wonderful time and we were able to make a bunch of contacts.

I hope you enjoy the pictures, and please lift up each face you see to our father.
